The flash mount is hinged.

This model is more suited to "screw-on" Leicas with a "wide" screw hole on the base (3/8" I think, unlike the more classic and recent "Kodak" 1/4" size).
However, it is possible to replace the screw tip.
Some Leica M2 and M3 also have a "big" screw hole.
